Turtle Tuff Shelters began in 2005 with a desire to design and build a light weight, portable, strong, low-cost, quality geodesic dome shelter. The geodesic dome is the lightest frame structure for its weight in existence. We have selected cover and floor material that will resist UV rays, high winds, rain and snow, for many years.
The Turtle Tuff is not a tent, but a very strong home away from home. It can be used in an emergency (earthquake, hurricane, etc.) to relocate to a safe area and with a few hours set up, have a safe dwelling for the family in any weather.
The geodesic frame is designed to withstand 147 mph winds when securely staked to the ground. The frame can stand up to many hundreds of pounds of weight from snow. It can also support several hammocks from the hubs. The frame is made of high strength, tempered, aircraft aluminum alloy that gives it the strength of steel with only 1/4 the weight. It is very easy to set up and take down to move to new locations. Two people can assemble the frame in less than 1 hour and the entire unit in 3-4 hours. The geodesic dome design was awarded: "The strongest structure per weight" by the American Architectual Association.
The 16' Snapper shelters are:
- 16' in diameter (the distance from one side of the shelter to the other)
- 8' high (from the floor to the center of the tent, at its highest point)
- 200 square feet (total floor space of the tent)
- 150 lbs geodesic frame

Description of Features
- High R Value Insulation: Our light-weight, space-age insulation allows our shelters to be used in every season of the year. Its bright, reflective surface increases the interior illumination.
- Cover: Designed to last 3 to 5 years of constant use. Door/window zippers included for simple, self-customizing placement. Translucent cover for skylights - fold back insulation panels, velcro in place, replace at night. Heavy duty, puncture/tear resistant; if punctured, it will not rip in strong winds. Waterproof to 90 lbs/sq/in. No need to ever treat or seal seams.
- Hot House: Multi laminate 80% transparent cover with UV resist and nylon grid rip stop. Comes with window, door zipper kits, clip frame fastening system.
- Floor: The material for the floor is the same as for the tent cover itself. Both are highly durable and puncture resistant.
- Wood Stove: Wood burning stove, flu pipe, SS water tank, damper, arrester, side table.
- Solar Lighting: 72 LED, rechargeable battery powered, long life, light module. Solar Panel Charger and AA battery holder for easy recharge during the day.
